Isaiah Moll, a junior at Colonie Central High School, is set to break out this upcoming season.  The 6’ 6, 220 lb. guard, who is running with the Albany City Rocks 16U EYBL squad this summer, was a standout in his first varsity season.

Moll’s impact was felt immediately.  In his first game against a talented Troy High team, he scored 14 points, leading his team to a 62-59 triumph.  His scoring prowess soared after that opener, and he netted 29 and 22 points in the next two contests, respectively.  Moll scored in double digits in all but two games this past season.  Ultimately, he led a young Garnet Raiders team to a 14-8 overall record, while averaging 17 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists per game.

Well-built and defined, Moll uses his physicality and aggressiveness to get easy baskets down low and already possesses a body built for the collegiate game.  He is a true matchup nightmare for any team in Section II.  Put a big on him, and he’ll use his quickness and exceptional ball-handling ability to blow right by them.  Put a smaller guard on him, and he’ll get to the rim and score with ease.  He’s a very capable mid-range shooter as well. Look to his performance against Shenendehowa (Class AA state semi-finalist) on January 19.  Shen combated Colonie’s offensive attack with a 2-3 zone.  Unable to put the ball in the basket for much of the first half, Colonie looked to Moll to provide some scoring and to help get them back in the game.  Shen allowed Moll to receive an entry pass at the free throw line and gave him the mid-range jumper.   Consequently, Moll hit multiple jumpers and helped carry his team back into the contest.  Under his guidance, Colonie was able to cut the lead down to just three with 1:30 left to play.  In all, Moll scored 20 points and definitely held his own against Shen’s formidable front line.  Moll also is an above-average athlete and can finish well above the rim.  Again, just a 16-year-old kid, his athleticism will only rise with time and training.

After a stellar sophomore campaign, Moll will receive a lot of attention from opposing defenses this upcoming season.  Teams will look to slow him down with double teams and will assign their best defender to cover him.  However, with a year of varsity experience and another offseason of playing/working out under his belt, Moll will be up to the challenge.  When asked how he will combat the test, he answered, “I have confidence that when I kick out, my team will make shots.”

Moll has already received many looks from low-tier Division 1 schools.  Look for that list to grow as Isaiah continues to work hard, both on and off the court.  This offseason, Moll has dedicated himself to spending hours in the gym and crafting his game.  He cited “lifting, ball handling, and shooting” as his main focus points, and said he has devoted a large amount of time to work on three pointers in catch-and-shoot situations.  Moll is a B+ student in the classroom.
