Last season, Amsterdam’s Kory Bergh was one of the fastest up and comers in the Capital District, and heading into the 2015-16 season it’s time to take notice of Bergh as one of the top players in all of Section II.

Last year, Bergh helped lead Amsterdam to a run to the Class A semifinals, and with their star player returning, the Rams should once again be a contender for a Sectional Championship.

Bergh, listed as a 5’10” guard, is a dynamic shooter and play-maker. In a recent interview with Upstate Scouting Service, he said he excels in multiple areas on the offensive end. “My best assets are definitely shooting and being able to make other players better. Just seeing the floor as a point guard really.”

Along with his ability to knock-down jumpers, Bergh says he has grown over the last few seasons into a more dynamic leadership position with Amsterdam, saying he’s learned what he has to do to make his team successful.

Bergh’s best strength is certainly his shooting ability. Although he says he is comfortable spotting up or coming off screens he says he prefers to be able to create on his own where he can either shoot, or get others involved. “I like to have the ball in my hands so I can take over, but I can do it both ways really.  I like to be able to create for the other players, so I like having the ball in my hands,” Bergh said.

Despite his success, Bergh says he has not heard from college scouts about playing at the next level, but he believes that if he continues to work on improving his game, eventually his hard work will pay off. “I haven’t had anything come up, so I’m going to just keep working…It will definitely come sooner or later, I think once I start to play a little better things will start to come my way.”

In the meantime, Bergh is working on his skills in AAU, and summer league ball, while continuing to improve his strength by working out and staying in shape “I want to show everybody I can play,” said Bergh when asked what he could do to capture the attention of college coaches and scouts, “Just because I’m from Amsterdam I guess everybody talks down, but I’m just trying to make a name for myself and show them that I can actually play.”

As for his team, Bergh has a simple message to any team in Amsterdam’s path next season. “Whoever is in our way, we’re coming for you.”
