We are one day away from the 2013 Basketball Coaches Association of New York Summer Hoops Festival. For the team representing the Capital and Adirondack regions, Sections 2 and 7, the goal is clear, according to their coach.

“Every time you compete you want to give your best. So our expectation this year will be the same as last year…bring home the gold,” Coach Orlando DiBacco said of his team. “We have five returning players from last year’s event- all five are talented basketball players who bring different skills to our team.”

The five players DiBacco is referring to are Jamil Hood from Green Tech, Greg Stire from CBA, John Sica from Bethlehem, Elijah Burns from Blair Prep, and Dyaire Holt from Troy. With these five players, it is hard to disagree with the team’s expectations of bringing home gold.

Joining these players are Connor Morelli from Bethlehem, Jahlil Nails from Columbia, Raymond Burt and Jaziya Carr from Green Tech, John Moutopolous from Albany Academy, Tylon Gilmore from Watervliet.

Along with Orlando DiBacco, the other coaches of the Capital District and Adirondack team are Brian Fruscio from Albany Academy, Lansingburgh’s Guy DiBacco  and Ryan Meikle of Troy.

What makes DiBacco’s team so scary to the other teams competing at the BCANY games is that the players are well-rounded. According to their coach: “Many of the players are capable of playing multiple positions, so they can assume different roles depending on who is in the game. Players will be learning to share the ball and have confidence in their teammates quickly because they only have three practices. Guys can make the extra pass to their open teammates for even better scoring opportunities on this team.”

With every region, from top to bottom, bringing in a talented group of players, DiBacco believes that the team representing Central New York has “an impressive roster.” He went on to say that “all teams will be competitive. These are supposed to be each section’s best talent. Players are expected to do their best and represent their region each game.”

DiBacco  believes it gives his players an opportunity to “represent their school and section with pride knowing that they have the chance to show others the level of play our Section (2) competes at.”

The Capital District and Adirondack regions are very well represented by the team Orlando DiBacco is bringing to Johnson City this weekend. Upstate Scout will be at the games, so we hope to see everyone there. Good luck to all who will be competing.
