Rising senior Chris Heims out of Maine-Endwell is looking to make a big impact for the Spartans in the 2012-2013 season. Heims will be one of the team’s focal points this season and is rising up on the collegiate radar as well. “Chris has a very soft touch around the rim, is a quality perimeter jump shooter, is quick off his feet and is very good at timing rebounds and shot blocking attempts,” said Maine-Endwell coach Bill Ocker in a recent interview with Upstate Scouting Service.

At 6’6”, Heims is able to excel at the high school level due to his ability to be a dual threat big man, scoring in the paint, as well as beyond the arc. Ocker sees him playing a stretch four in college, an important position for all collegiate teams.

Ocker also notes that Heims has put in the work necessary to get better throughout his high school career. “He comes to everything.  He’s put in a ton of time. He’s done 100% of everything we are trying to do in the offseason and preseason.” Ocker said. “He ended up starting for us last year as a junior and has made tremendous progress both conceptually and skill-wise.” Heims has notably improved his rebounding and his ability to play through contact this offseason, which should make him an even bigger threat down low for Maine-Endwell in this year.

According to Ocker, Heims has been contacted by several Division Three schools about continuing his career after his senior season. “Chris really had a lot of interest this spring and summer. He has got multiple teams interested.” Ocker notes Misericordia, Sage, and Corning Community College as among the programs that have shown interest in Heims to this point, but insists that Heims is still wide open about what he wants to do at the college level. “He’s still feeling his options.  He’s visiting some bigger schools, contemplating walking on at bigger school versus competing at a smaller school. He’s still up in the air on what he wants to do. He’s feeling out both sides of the process.”

Coming off of an 8-10 season, Maine-Endwell should be much improved in the 2012-2013 campaign with Heims leading the way, and Ocker expressed enthusiasm about his Spartans club this season. “I know Chris is a very team-oriented kid.  We as a group are looking forward to having a good year. We have a lot of talent coming back.  We played together all spring and summer, and did pretty well. We are looking forward to getting back together once our kids are done with football.”

Upstate Scouting Service thanks Coach Bill Ocker for taking the time to answer our questions, and wishes Chris Heims and the entire Maine-Endwell squad good luck this season.
